Cost of living in Nova Scotia
- Housing is the biggest line — rent or buy
- Budget for winter heating
- Car + insurance for most areas
- One-time settling costs add up
Nova Scotia is more affordable than Toronto or Vancouver, but planning still matters. Housing is usually your biggest cost, whether you rent or buy — and outside Halifax, both tend to cost noticeably less. Beyond that, budget for groceries, winter home heating, a car and insurance, plus phone and internet. Add taxes and a few one-time settling costs, and you have a realistic monthly picture. I'm always happy to walk through a personalised budget with you.
